The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the final results of the Osun State governorship election, with the incumbent Governor, Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party, emerging victorious.
Adeleke secured a total of 511,067 votes to defeat his closest rival, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who garnered 444,815 votes.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Najeem Salaam, finished third with 17,180 votes.
Results released by INEC showed Adeleke recording victories in several local government areas, including Ede North, Ede South, Osogbo, Ife East, Ife South, Egbedore, Oriade, Odo Otin and Ila.
Oyebamiji, however, prevailed in a number of local government areas, among them Irewole, Isokan, Atakunmosa East, Obokun, Ilesa East, Boripe and Olorunda.
With the final figures from all 30 local government areas collated, Adeleke finished 66,252 votes ahead of Oyebamiji.
The outcome brings to an end a closely fought governorship contest and hands Adeleke another term in office after defeating the APC challenger at the polls.
