The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma branch, has declared an indefinite strike over the Edo State Government’s failure to implement the 2025 FGN/ASUU Agreement at the institution.
The union announced the industrial action following its Congress meeting on Monday, directing members to commence the strike from 12:01 a.m. on Tuesday, August 25, 2026.
In a statement signed by the branch Chairman, Dr Cyril Oziegbe Onogbosele, and Secretary, Dr William Odion, ASUU said neither the university management nor the Edo State Government responded to its 14-day ultimatum.
The union said its demands included the implementation of the 2025 FGN/ASUU Agreement and the payment of accrued allowance arrears from January 2026 to date.
ASUU said the decision to embark on the strike followed the failure of the authorities to address its demands despite efforts by the branch to secure implementation of the agreement.
The strike, according to the union, will involve the withdrawal of statutory services by academic staff, including teaching and lecturing, as well as the conduct and invigilation of undergraduate and postgraduate examinations.
It will also affect oral, computer based and paper-based examinations, statutory meetings at departmental, faculty and Senate levels, as well as the supervision of students’ research projects, Industrial Training and Teaching Practice.
