Gov. AbdulRazaq Expands Kwara Road Network with 31km Infrastructure Flag-Off in Ilorin East, Moro

Kwara State Governor Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq CON, on Wednesday flagged off the construction of two major rural road projects covering a combined distance of 31 kilometres across Ilorin East and Moro Local Government Areas in Kwara Central Senatorial District.

The projects comprising the 21-kilometre Oke-Oyi–Lanwa Road connecting Ilorin East and Moro LGAs, alongside the 10-kilometre Oke-Ose–Ile-Apa/Maya Asunlope Road in Ilorin East are supervised by the Kwara State Ministry of Works and Transport to strengthen agrarian market access, improve rural connectivity, and ease transit.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremonies, Governor AbdulRazaq stated that infrastructure investments are intentionally executed to expand grassroots commercial capacity and lift economic burdens off rural dwellers.

“To the people of Moro and Ilorin East Local Government Areas, particularly the residents of Oke-Oyi, Lanwa, Ilala, Onikoko, Budo Isale, Alufa, Oke-Ose, and neighbouring communities, this project is a statement of our commitment to your wellbeing and the future of your communities,” said the Governor.

“A road is valuable not merely because it connects two locations, but because of the people it helps, the businesses it supports, and the opportunities it brings within reach.” He added.

Highlighting his administration’s infrastructure track record, the governor disclosed that over 650 kilometres of state roads have been completed excluding the 294-kilometre tax credit road schemes with several additional projects currently in progress or planned across the state’s three senatorial districts.

The governor was accompanied to the event by the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly and APC Governorship candidate, Rt. Hon. Salihu Yakubu Danladi, alongside senior state officials, local government chairmen, and party leaders.

In his remarks, the 2027 APC candidate for Ilorin East/Ilorin South Federal Constituency, Hon. Abdulquawiy Olododo, commended the administration for prioritizing long-neglected rural corridors, emphasizing that the roads will directly boost agricultural haulage and local trader incomes.

“Today’s occasion is not merely about flagging off road construction; it is about the economic opportunities this road will create for our farmers, traders, young people, and families whose daily livelihoods depend on better connectivity,” Olododo noted.

Community leaders, including the Baale of Oke-Oyi, Mallam Soliu Abdulkadir, the Alangua of Oke-Omi, Mallam Suleiman Ibrahim, and Oke-Ose community spokesman, Alhaji Suleiman Aremu, expressed deep gratitude to the state government, noting that communities along the corridor had suffered severe transit hardship and awaited motorable roads since 1981.

Also present at the groundbreaking ceremonies were Kwara House of Assembly member and APC candidate for Ilorin East Constituency, Hon. Arinola Lawal; Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Works and Transport, Elder Anthony Gana Abu; APC State Deputy Chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Samari; Chairman of Ilorin East LGA, Hon. Luqman Agbelere; Chairperson of Moro LGA, Hon. Mariam Abdulwasiu; and Director-General of the Kwara APC Campaign Council (Central), Alhaji Abdulrazaq Jiddah.
