Group Slams APC Over Irepodun Appointments, Demands Merit, Transparency

A socio-political group, the Restoration Movement has criticized the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State over what it termed non-inclusive and repetitive political appointments in Irepodun Local Government Area ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The protest follows the recent appointment of the party’s Kwara State Liaison Officer for the APC Presidential Campaign Council’s Directorate of New Media, a role given to an individual who also holds the party’s candidate ticket for the Irepodun State Constituency seat in the Kwara State House of Assembly.

In a press statement made available to 9japarrot and signed by the President of the Restoration Movement, Peter Kayode, the group questioned the criteria utilized by party leadership in selecting political representatives and media spokespersons for the local government area.

”Irepodun has a large pool of educated, energetic, and politically active young people, many of whom have worked for the party and the community for years without recognition,” Kayode stated.

“Party and government roles should reward merit, track record, and community acceptance, not proximity to those in power.” He added.

Expressing concern over political exclusion, the group noted that repeatedly concentrating party platforms and official roles on a single individual discourages grassroots party loyalists and signals to young people that hard work and dedication yield little reward.

”When the same name keeps getting every position, it shuts out everyone else and tells our youth that merit and hard work do not count,” the statement added.

“Anyone who speaks for the party and the government online must be transparent, credible, and accountable, and must answer questions about their record when asked.” He added.

The Restoration Movement called on Kwara State Governor Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and the state APC leadership to disclose the selection criteria for the appointment, decentralize political opportunities among competent youths across Irepodun Local Government Area, and enforce strict accountability standards for all party spokespersons and appointees.

Reaffirming their position, the group stressed that Irepodun youths are not seeking political favors, but demanding structural fairness, internal democratic inclusion, and integrity in how the ruling party selects its public representatives.
