The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has declared that he is better qualified to lead Nigeria than President Bola Tinubu and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Obi made the assertion on Saturday during a town hall meeting in Owerri, Imo State, where he engaged with Nigerians as part of his ongoing political consultations.
The former Anambra State governor said he considers himself superior to the two political figures in terms of competence, character, capacity and compassion.
He reportedly cited his record in office, prudent management of public resources and performance in the 2023 presidential election as reasons he believes he is better positioned to lead the country.
Obi also criticised Tinubu’s administration, arguing that the President had failed to fulfil the promises of his Renewed Hope agenda. He further described Atiku as representing an old political order that Nigerians had rejected.
“I’m better than Tinubu, Atiku. I have a better track record. I managed Anambra well without borrowing. I left billions in the coffers. Nigerians know who can manage this country,” Obi said.
His remarks have generated reactions among political supporters, with some criticising his comparison of himself with the two leaders, while his supporters have defended his position and praised his record.
The comments come as political activities and consultations begin to gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.
