The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), through its Mining Marshals, has intensified enforcement operations against illegal mining activities and economic saboteurs across the country.
The renewed crackdown is aimed at strengthening regulatory compliance, protecting Nigeria’s mineral resources and addressing revenue losses associated with illegal mining operations.
Speaking on the ongoing operations, the Commander of the Mining Marshals, ACC Attah John Onoja, said enforcement activities would continue nationwide without a predetermined sequence, assuring that the Corps remained committed to ensuring that mining operations comply with existing laws and regulations.
Onoja disclosed that the latest operation in Nasarawa State was conducted in collaboration with the Federal Mines Officer and the state’s mining regulatory team.
According to him, the operation was designed to ensure strict adherence to established mining laws, operational guidelines and safety requirements governing mineral exploration and exploitation.
He further explained that the renewed enforcement drive aligned with the mandates of the NSCDC Commandant-General, Ahmed Abubakar Audi, and the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr Dele Alake, to combat illegal mining and eliminate revenue leakages in the solid minerals sector.
The Mining Marshals Commander warned that mining operators must obtain valid licences and fulfil all necessary regulatory and operational requirements before commencing activities.
He stressed that the Corps would sustain its nationwide operations to ensure that mining activities are conducted within the confines of the law.
