A fresh political crisis has emerged within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State following disagreements over Governor Ademola Adeleke’s involvement in President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election campaign.
The state chapter of the APC has rejected the campaign structure inaugurated by Adeleke, who recently defected to the Accord Party, and established a separate 168-member Presidential and Parliamentary Campaign Council to coordinate support for Tinubu and other APC candidates in the state.
The development follows Adeleke’s inauguration of a 344-member Presidential Campaign Council in Osogbo, where he appointed himself as the coordinator of Tinubu’s re-election campaign in Osun.
However, the inauguration generated controversy following the absence of prominent APC figures, including former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, the party’s governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, and state chairman, Tajudeen Lawal.
In a statement issued on Monday, Lawal announced the establishment of the new APC campaign council, explaining that it was designed to strengthen the party’s mobilisation efforts and secure electoral victories for Tinubu and all APC candidates contesting National and State Assembly seats.
Under the new arrangement, Oyebamiji will serve as Director-General, while Lawal will occupy the position of Deputy Director-General.
The council also comprises the party’s three senatorial candidates, nine House of Representatives candidates, four former deputy governors, General Alani Akinrinade, Femi Fani-Kayode and other prominent APC stakeholders.
Lawal said the party’s decision followed Adeleke’s reported declaration that he would support Tinubu’s presidential ambition without extending the same support to other APC candidates.
He maintained that the APC had consequently resolved to establish an independent campaign structure involving its leaders and members across the state.
The statement added that the party was committed to securing an all-round victory for Tinubu and its candidates in the 2027 general elections.
The development highlights growing political disagreements over the coordination of the President’s re-election campaign in Osun State ahead of the 2027 polls.
