The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has condemned activist VeryDarkMan for wearing its uniform without authorization.
In widely circulated video footage, the social media figure, whose real name is Martins Otse, was seen donning a uniform associated with the rank of Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP).
VeryDarkMan reiterated his dedication to fighting injustice in Nigeria.
In a statement released on X on Saturday, the police announced an investigation to uncover the source of the police uniform and the authority under which VeryDarkMan acted.
The law enforcement agency emphasized its support for creative expression among Nigerian youth while cautioning against the misuse of its symbols, stating that such actions compromise its values and integrity.
“The Force firmly disassociates itself from this unauthorized representation and has initiated a thorough investigation to identify the source of the police gear and the authority under which he operated,” the statement read.
It further reminded the public that the unauthorized use of police uniforms, insignia, or equipment is a criminal offense under Section 251 of the Criminal Code and Section 133 of the Penal Code, carrying serious penalties.
“While the Nigeria Police Force appreciates the creativity of young Nigerians in content creation, we strongly advise against the misuse of police uniforms or symbols. Such unauthorized use undermines the integrity and values of the Force and will not be tolerated.”
Since rising to fame, VeryDarkMan has frequently made headlines for various controversial reasons.
