Over 10 Pro-Lamido Traditional Leaders Resign in Sokoto

Over 10 traditional and community leaders in the Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State have resigned from their positions as community and traditional leaders.

A spokesman for the leaders and the Ubandoma of Sarkin Gobir, Jamilu Gobir, said over ten of them and their followers decided to resign and pitch tent with Senator Ibrahim Lamido of Sokoto East to liberate the eastern zone of Sokoto from the shackles of insecurity, poverty, and education backwardness.

He said beyond politics, the eastern zone of Sokoto is in dear need of deliberate interventions to liberate the region economically haven’t suffered a great deal from the activities of bandits, which has disrupted socio-economic activities for several years.

An internal crisis within the Sokoto State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has split the party into two factions; one led by Senator Lamido and another led by Senator Aliyu Wamakko (Sokoto North), a former governor of the state and mentor to Governor Ahmed Aliyu.


Since the beginning of the crisis, about 40 APC members loyal to Lamido have resigned their positions under Governor Aliyu to prove their allegiance to the federal lawmaker whom they consider the leader of the party.
