Titilope Anifowoshe Salami Charges Young Law Students To Strive For Excellence

Renowned activist and social impact strategist, Titilope Anifowoshe Salami, popularly known as Legal Eagle, has urged young law students to strive for excellence in their legal pursuits.

Speaking at the 2024 Annual Freshers’ Moot Competition held at the University of Ilorin’s Faculty of Law, Liberty Chambers, Legal Eagle congratulated the winners and charged them to “keep the fire burning.”

In her words, “I am thrilled to support the Titilope Anifowoshe Annual Freshers Moot Competition, giving back to my alma mater, Liberty Chambers, Faculty of Law, University of Ilorin. As someone committed to empowering young Nigerians, it is heartwarming to see participants receiving greater rewards for their hard work.”

“This competition holds a special place in my heart, as it was through this very Freshers Moots Competition 13 years ago that I was introduced to legal advocacy and mooting. I am proud to be part of its legacy, inspiring the next generation of legal minds,” she added.

The event, sponsored by Legal Eagle, aimed to foster excellence in legal advocacy among young law students.

The competition explored the right of inheritance for illegitimate children, debating whether this right opposes Sections 42 and 43 of the Nigerian Constitution.

A seven-man panel of judges, including Lord Ismail Khadijah, CJLSS, Chief justice Law Student Society (presiding), Oyebanji Paul, SALC, Senior Advocate Liberty Chambers President LSS, Lord Ahmad Gomih, CJLSS, Chief Justice Law Student Society, Lord Abdulsamod Oba, JSU, Justice of the Student Union, Lord Kamal Gbemisola (JSU, Justice of the Student Union), Opoola Opeyemi (SAU, Senior Advocate of the Union), and Lord Salaudeen Abdullah (Justice of the Law Student Society, JLSS), presided over the competition.

Our correspondent reports that after a keenly contested competition, Group 5 (Appellants), led by R.A Ajileye, took home the top prize, while Group 4 (Respondents), led by Y.O Ishak, emerged as the first runner-up. Y.O Ishak, Lead Counsel of the Respondents, emerged as the Best Advocate, while R.A Ajileye, Lead Counsel of the Appellants, won the Best Female Counsel award.

The Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Mrs. Nimah Modupeola AbdulRaheem, commended the organizers for the initiative, stating that it prepares young law students for future success in the legal profession.

On her part, Mayram Gimbiya, the Lord Advocate of Liberty Chambers, reiterated the chamber’s commitment to supporting young law students.

The event was attended by students, faculty members, and dignitaries from the legal profession, who all praised the organizers for a successful event.
