BTA Unveils Education Tree (Igi Iwe) 2025

Over the past few weeks, my research into the Igi Iwe (Education Tree) initiative by The BTA Foundation, led by Barrister Titilope Akogun, has been both enlightening and commendable. This initiative has quietly but significantly impacted education and community development since its start in 2017.

The foundation has shown an unwavering commitment to education by offering scholarships to academically gifted yet economically challenged students, sponsoring over 232 students to date. It has also distributed over 40,000 books and other educational materials to primary and secondary school students, recognized outstanding students for scholarships, supported vocational and summer education, and provided mental health support for students and parents. Additionally, the foundation has engaged in educational programs like debates and quizzes, rewarding top performers with cash, gifts, and further scholarships. This support has not only helped students but has also eased financial pressures on their families, allowing them to focus resources on other essential needs.

The Igi Iwe scheme has been a beacon of hope in Kwara South and throughout Kwara State, enhancing academic excellence and inspiring bigger dreams among the youth. The tangible impact is seen in the stories of students who have thrived academically and contributed positively to society, thanks to the scholarships.

The Igi Iwe Scheme, meaning “Tree of Knowledge” or “Education Tree,” symbolizes growth, resilience, and empowerment. It has been pivotal in supporting bright but needy students across Nigeria, ensuring financial barriers do not impede educational pursuits. The initiative focuses on talent development and social equity by aiding academically promising youths.

Achievements of the Igi Iwe Scheme:

Empowering Young Minds: Scholarships have opened doors to quality education, significantly impacting students’ academic paths and confidence.
Relieving Families: Financial aid has reduced the economic strain on families, allowing them to allocate resources elsewhere.
Nurturing Future Leaders: Beneficiaries have excelled in their studies and personal growth, preparing them for leadership roles.
Community Growth: Educated youths contribute to community development, acting as agents of change.

Vision for Expansion:

As the scheme progresses, Barrister Akogun plans to expand its reach to support more students and address educational disparities on a larger scale.

In 2025, the initiative is set to grow, with plans to distribute over 150 free JAMB forms, 5,000 exercise books, support JAMB registration, offer preparation lessons, and provide school uniforms to students in the southern part of Kwara State. This expansion underscores Akogun’s vision of youth as future leaders and his commitment to a brighter future.

Such dedication to educational support and community upliftment through philanthropy is rare and merits celebration. Barrister Akogun and the BTA Foundation exemplify how targeted educational support can transform lives. It’s time to applaud their efforts, support their expansion, and encourage others to invest in the education of future leaders and nurturing the stars of tomorrow.
