Prof. Adamu Ahmed has officially taken over as the 13th substantive Vice-Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University, succeeding Prof. Kabiru Bala.
The transition ceremony was held at the University Senate Chambers on April 30, 2025.
In his inaugural remarks, Prof. Adamu Ahmed expressed hope to close the gap for timely impactful research that would create wealth and bring meaningful innovation.
Prof. Ahmed also said that he would encourage cooperation in research and innovation among staff and students.

“I do not have all the answers but with the globally respected academics, strong students body and dedicated administrators we will make a difference”, he said.
He pledged to serve with diligence, humility and fairness in order to continue upholding the global standard of the University.
The new Vice-Chancellor expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the ABU Governing Council for the vote of confidence by appointing him to steer the affairs of the university.
He also thanked the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kabiru Bala, for his stewardship of the University, and equally acknowledged the support and encouragement of the university basketball family.
In his remark, the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kabiru Bala, congratulated his successor and wished him a successful tenure.

He appreciated the University Community for their support, criticisms and words of encouragement that helped him weather the storms during his tenure.
Also speaking, the Ag. Registrar, Dr. Aliyu Dalha Kankia, commended Prof Bala for being a good shepherd, leader, as well as a mentor.
While welcoming the new Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Kankia emphasized that the handover should not be a change of title but a continuation of great things.
Highlights of the event were goodwill messages by a former Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic, Prof. Danladi Amodu Ameh, and photography sessions.






The event was attended by Principal Officers of the University, Management Staff, Deans, Directors, Heads of Department, members of the Zazzau Emirate Council, notable alumni from within and outside the country, and members of the press.
