Community Rejoices As Kwara Govt Begins Construction of Speedbreakers On Oko-Olowo Expressway

Kwara State Government has commenced the construction of speedbreakers on Oko-Olowo expressway to curb accidents and safeguard lives and properties of residents in the bustling community.

The work followed the approval given by the Federal Road Corps (FRSC) to the Kwara Ministry of Works headed by Engr. Abdulquawiy Olododo.

The road had often been reported by the community to be constantly experiencing accidents, with residents calling on the government for an intervention to nip the trend* in the bud. The call was ignored by the PDP-led former administration in the state.

Earlier in April, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor Mallam Rafiu Ajakaye hinted newsmen of the ongoing process by the incumbent administration to get the approval, while announcing the work as a temporary measure to enforce safety on the expressway.

Following the approval of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for the intervention, residents confirmed on Monday that the speedbreakers are being constructed on both sides of the ever-busy road.

Senior Special Assistant on Communication to Kwara Governor Ibraheem Abdullateef Akolu, who was on a community assessment of the work on Monday, said the Governor has continued to live up to his reputation as a “promise keeper.”

Abdullateef added that officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) have also been stationed at different points along Shao–Oko-Olowo junction to enforce traffic regulations and safety in the community.

Residents said that the intervention has once again shown the Governor to be a unique and responsive leader who prioritises the voice, safety, and welfare of the citizens in the state.
