The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), through its training arm, The Electoral Institute (TEI), held a crucial Methodology Workshop in Awka on Thursday, July 10, 2025. The workshop was organized to train field agents and local guides for the forthcoming Voter Register Assessment (VRA) exercise, a key preparatory step for the November 8, 2025, Anambra State off-cycle governorship election.
Held at La Luna Hotel, the training aimed to equip participants with the necessary skills to conduct a thorough and credible evaluation of the state’s voter register. The event commenced at 10:00 a.m. with the National Anthem.
The Acting Director-General of TEI, Prof. Ibrahim Sani, represented by the Deputy Director, Library, delivered the opening remarks. He emphasized that the training was designed to prepare field agents for the VRA, which is crucial for providing empirical data to improve the reliability and accuracy of the voter register.
The Chairman of the Board of The Electoral Institute (BEI), speaking through the Anambra State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr. Queen Elizabeth, reinforced INEC’s unwavering commitment to meticulous planning for the upcoming election. She highlighted the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise across all 326 Registration Areas in Anambra State and urged the field agents to conduct their assessment with the utmost integrity, transparency, and credibility.
Dr. Elizabeth issued a stern warning to participants against sharing sensitive information with unauthorized persons, reminding them of the critical impact their work could have on the integrity of Nigeria’s electoral process – it could either strengthen or undermine it.
Participants were thoroughly taken through the program’s schedule and reminded of the stringent criteria for their involvement in both the workshop and the subsequent field assessment.
