The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has accused Minister Hannatu Musawa of serving as a minister while also participating in the mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme.
HURIWA claimed that Musawa abandoned her NYSC in Ebonyi state but recently expressed interest in completing it.
According to the group, Musawa was mobilised this year and posted to a law firm in Abuja before her appointment as minister. HURIWA called on the NYSC to compel Musawa to focus on either her national youth service or her ministerial position.
The statement also questioned the scrutiny conducted by the Department of State Services, as it was not disclosed that the minister was a youth corper.
The NYSC confirmed that Musawa is a corps member.
The Minister did not respond to calls or messages regarding the matter.
Lawyer Victor Giwa stated that if Musawa is indeed serving, she should be in her Place of Primary Assignment and not holding a public service position at this time. He also questioned why this issue was not identified during the screening process.
