Kwara South Unity Group Takes ‘Igbomina Lokan’ Campaign to Elese of Igbaja, Seeks Royal Support

The Kwara South Unity Group (KSUG) continued its high-stakes consultation tour on Sunday, meeting with the Elese of Igbaja, His Royal Majesty, Oba Alhaji (Dr.) Ahmed Babalola Awuni Arepo III.

This visit marks the third leg of the group’s efforts to garner royal support for its “Igbomina Agenda,” which aims to ensure the Igbomina bloc produces the next senator for the district in 2027.

The KSUG, which comprises members from all seven local government areas and the three major blocs in Kwara South including Ibolo, Igbomina and Ekiti, previously held similar meetings with the Olupo of Ajase Ipo and the Olusin of Isanlu-Isin.

Leading the delegation, Hon. Adebayo Jimoh Alao, a former Commissioner for Sports, explained that the group’s objective is to promote fairness and equity in the senatorial district’s political representation. He highlighted a long-standing understanding among All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders that the senatorial seat should be rotated among the Ibolo, Ekiti, and Igbomina blocs.

Engr. Alao pointed out that since the Ekiti and Ibolo blocs have had their turns, it is now the turn of the Igbomina people to produce the next Senator. This sentiment was echoed by other delegates, including Dr. Babatunde Salami, a former Chairman of Ifelodun Local Government, who emphasized that the “Igbomina lokan” agenda is a just cause.

The group also unanimously endorsed Engr. Nurudeen Adeyemi as their preferred candidate for the 2027 senatorial seat. They cited his loyalty to the party’s progressive ideologies, his immense contributions to our region, and his numerous humanitarian gestures as key reasons for their support.

Engr. Tunde Fadipe, a former Isin LG Council Boss, even suggested that because of his contributions and loyalty, Engr. Adeyemi has earned the political rank of a general.

Hon. Olanrewaju Shade, a delegate from Irepodun LGA, was captured on her knees, seeking the Elese of Igbaja’s royal blessings for the agenda and for Engr. Adeyemi’s candidacy. She maintained that the Igbomina bloc rightfully deserves the senatorial slot in 2027 due to historical imbalances in political rotation.

In his response, the Elese of Igbaja, Oba Awuni Arepo III, commended the KSUG’s unity and vision. He noted that the group’s collective approach was the first of its kind in the district and urged them to uphold fairness and equity.

The monarch advised them to continue their consultations with a wider range of stakeholders to achieve their goal.

The Olusin of Isanlu-Isin, Oba Solomon Olugbenga Oloyede, who met with the group earlier, also encouraged them to sustain their engagements until the dream becomes a reality.

9japarrot reports that the group’s tour is part of a broader strategy to secure a consensus among traditional rulers and political stakeholders in the Kwara South Senatorial District ahead of the next election cycle.
