Stakeholders from the Kwara Central Senatorial district have said they will do everything within their reach to actualize a Kwara Northerner candidacy come the 2027 general election.
This development was confirmed on Saturday during a landmark gathering that could reshape Kwara State’s political landscape, where the Kwara North Youth Consultative Forum (KNYCF) in partnership with Kwara Central Organization held a dialogue in Ilorin, advocating for the governorship to be zoned to the Kwara North Senatorial District in 2027.
The event, themed “Kwara North 2027 Governorship Aspiration: A Path to a More United and Prosperous Kwara,” brought together youth leaders and stakeholders from both Kwara North and Kwara Central Senatorial districts.
In his opening remarks, the Chairman of the KNYCF, Honorable Muhammed Aruna, expressed his honor at hosting the first-ever Kwara North-Kwara Central youth dialogue.
He revealed that the meeting was a consolidation of private engagements with various youth groups, community leaders, and stakeholders in Kwara Central, who have consistently expressed their support for justice, equality, and fairness by zoning the governorship to Kwara North come the 2027 general election.

“We believe that the unity among our youth across senatorial lines is the strongest foundation upon which the 2027 aspiration can rest,” Aruna stated.
He called on all political parties to zone their gubernatorial tickets to the Kwara North district.
Aruna also extended his gratitude to the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, for hosting the Kwara North youth group in a recent “historical and memorable” visit.
Speaking also, Hon. Mohammed Folusho Abdullahi, a strong youth advocate from Kwara Central and the Chief of Staff to the Minister of Youth, in his keynote address emphasized that Kwara North has never produced a governor since the return of the democratic government, appealing that it’s now the turn of the region to do so, echoing the call for justice and unity.
He noted that the Emir of Ilorin had also publicly supported the idea of a governor from Kwara North.
In his remarks, Dr. Sanusi Lafiagi criticized the long-standing political imbalance in the state, stating that since Nigeria’s independence, Kwara South and Kwara Central have dominated the governorship. He urged Kwarans to work together to ensure a Kwara North candidate emerged, assuring that a governor from the region would lead with the same level of integrity as the present administration.
Another chieftain from Kwara Central, Hon. Ahmad Ibrahim Adam, also affirmed the readiness of Kwara Central to support a Kwara North governor.
“Kwara South has known how a governor works, and so has Kwara Central, but let them in Kwara North have a taste,” he said.
He added that since 2011 with Kwara South leading and Kwara Central taking over in 2019, it is now Kwara North’s turn in 2027.
Honorable Shola Galadima, also from Kwara Central, expressed his full support for the agenda.
In his remarks: “they have supported us in Kwara Central, let’s give them our full support,” he said, thanking God for the unity and purpose displayed at the gathering.
The dialogue concluded with a sense of collective resolve, as youths from both senatorial districts appeared to unite behind the common goal of ensuring that the governorship seat is justly and fairly rotated to Kwara North in the upcoming election.
