
The Senator representing Kwara North Senatorial District and Chairman, Senate Committees on Trade & Investment and Rules & Business, Senator Sadiq Suleiman Umar (3SU), has extended his warm felicitations to His Royal Highness, Alhaji (Dr) Idris Shero Abubakar (Sherobetete Afon III), Emir of Okuta, on the grand celebration of the Gaani 2025 Festival.
In his goodwill message, Senator Sadiq Suleiman Umar described the Gaani Festival as one of the most significant cultural heritages of the Baruten people, a celebration that reinforces unity, peace, and the promotion of the community’s identity. He acknowledged the Emir’s fatherly role, wisdom, and leadership in preserving cultural values while fostering socio-economic growth across Okuta and Baruten at large.
“The Gaani Festival is not just a cultural display, it is a symbol of the strength, resilience, and togetherness of our people. Under the distinguished leadership of His Royal Highness, Alhaji (Dr) Idris Shero Abubakar, Emir of Okuta, the festival continues to serve as a rallying point for unity, communal bonding, and cultural pride. I heartily felicitate with the Emir, the good people of Okuta, and indeed the entire Baruten community on this historic occasion,” the Senator stated.
Senator Umar further reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that Kwara North, particularly border communities such as Okuta, enjoy improved government attention through people-oriented policies, infrastructural development, and socio-economic empowerment. He stressed that cultural celebrations such as Gaani should be harnessed for tourism, investment, and broader development.
“As we celebrate this year’s Gaani Festival, I call on all sons and daughters of Okuta, both at home and in the diaspora, to uphold our cherished values of peace, unity, and progress. May Almighty Allah grant His Royal Highness, the Emir, long life, wisdom, and good health to continue his exemplary leadership,” Senator Umar concluded.
The lawmaker prayed that the celebration of Gaani 2025 would bring renewed blessings, prosperity, and harmony to the Emirate, Kwara State, and Nigeria at large.
