“Kwara South Needs Healing, Not Division” — Otunba Oyabambi Cautions Sen. Ashiru Against Divisive Remarks

Otunba Adetunji Oyabambi, a stalwart of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and a prominent voice from Kwara South, has cautioned Senator Oyelola Ashiru to exercise restraint in his public utterances and avoid comments capable of deepening existing divisions in the senatorial district.

Oyabambi was reacting to a recent statement credited to Senator Ashiru, where he reportedly said that “Offa and Ibolo have 45 percent of the votes to determine whoever becomes the Senator of the district.”

He described the remark as reckless, insensitive, and unbecoming of a leader who should be working to build peace and unity among his constituents.

“At a time when Kwara South is facing serious socio-economic challenges — from insecurity and unemployment to growing disunity among our communities — what our people need most is healing, compassion, and visionary leadership,” Oyabambi said. “Our people expect leaders to speak words that heal, not words that divide. The role of a senator is to unite the constituency, defend its collective interests, and promote equity across all communities, not to make sectional boasts that threaten our fragile cohesion.”

He emphasized that leadership is not about numerical strength or political entitlement, but about inclusion, fairness, and a shared vision for progress.

According to him, every community in Kwara South, whether large or small, has contributed meaningfully to the region’s development and deserves to be respected as an equal partner in its political journey.

“No part of Kwara South is superior to another. Our diversity should be our strength, not a weapon for political manipulation. True leadership requires humility, empathy, and the ability to carry everyone along,” he noted.

Oyabambi urged political leaders across party lines to channel their energy into promoting peace, development, and the collective well-being of the people rather than making statements that breed resentment.

He called for a focus on policies and initiatives that will restore unity, empower the youth, and ensure that every community feels seen, heard, and valued.

“Now more than ever, we must rise above parochial sentiments and concentrate on what truly matters — building a peaceful, inclusive, and prosperous Kwara South. History will remember those who build bridges and work for unity, not those who sow seeds of discord among our people,” he added.
