The Director of Welfare for the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Kwara State Axis, Comrade Muh’d Jamiu Abdulsalam Olarewaju, has named the founder and Chancellor of AbdulRasaq Abubakar Toyin University (AATU), Alhaji Abubakar AbdulRazaq Toyin, as the Distinguished Honouree for the organization’s upcoming maiden.
In an official statement released on Tuesday and made available to 9japarrot media, Comrade Abdulsalam disclosed that the elite recognition is part of a strategic initiative by his office to spotlight exceptional individuals and corporate institutions investing substantially in student well-being, educational development, and grassroots youth empowerment across Kwara State.
According to the apex student body leader, the prestigious honor recognizes Alhaji Abubakar Toyin’s immense contributions to human capital development, community service, and his breakthrough vision in establishing a world-class private institution designed to bridge Nigeria’s rising higher education gap.
Comrade Abdulsalam highlighted that since its establishment, AAT University has captured national attention within Nigeria’s intellectual space due to its structural focus on combining academic excellence, technology-driven training, entrepreneurship, and ethics.
“Through the establishment of AATU, Alhaji Abubakar AbdulRazaq Toyin has demonstrated an unwavering commitment towards creating sustainable opportunities for young people and strengthening accessible, quality education in Kwara State and beyond,” Abdulsalam stated.
Nestled in the serene semi-urban hub of Oke-Ogba, Ganmo, within the Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, AATU stands out as a purpose-driven, not-for-profit institution. It was officially granted an operational license by the National Universities Commission (NUC) in early 2025 and has rapidly positioned itself as a 21st-century smart university committed to affordable education.
The university notably launched its first academic session with a highly competitive tuition template designed to remain accessible to parents, backed by robust vocational integration and multiple internal scholarship options for indigent students.
In August 2025, the National Universities Commission fully certified human and material resources for 14 specialized undergraduate programs spanning three foundation faculties:
Faculty of Science and Computing: Computer Science, Cyber Security, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Biochemistry, and Biotechnology.
Faculty of Arts, Management, and Social Sciences: Accounting, History and Diplomatic Studies, Business Administration, and Economics.
Faculty of Environmental Sciences: Architecture, Estate Management, Quantity Surveying, and Urban and Regional Planning.
The student association noted that the honor is further justified by the elite administrative foundation the founder has instituted at the university. Under the executive leadership of the pioneer Vice-Chancellor, Professor AbdulRauf Ambali, the institution’s advisory framework features some of the most respected minds in the country.
The university’s Board of Trustees is steered by former President of the Court of Appeal, Justice (Dr.) Isa Ayo Salami, OFR, CFR, alongside a powerhouse team of elder statesmen and world-class academics, including:
Prof. Abdulrasheed Na’Allah (Pro-Chancellor & Chairman of Governing Council), Prof. Popoola Ademola Oladapo, Prof. Angela Freeman Miri, Prof. Umaru Alhaji Pate, Shehu Ahmed Moyosore, Esq.
The maiden Students’ Welfare and Security Summit, where Alhaji Abubakar Toyin will be formally decorated, is expected to serve as a high-level dialogue hub. According to NANS Kwara leadership, the forum will confront immediate bottlenecks surrounding off-campus security vulnerabilities, basic student welfare parameters, and the cultivation of peaceful, secure learning environments across all tertiary setups in the state.
