NLC, TUC Threaten Nationwide Strike Over Rising Insecurity

By Monsurat Abisoye

The leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) have threatened to embark on industrial action over the worsening insecurity situation in the country.

The two labour unions issued the warning during a joint media briefing held on the sidelines of the ongoing 114th International Labour Conference in Geneva, Switzerland.

They stated that if the escalating wave of terrorism, banditry, and kidnappings across the country continues unabated, they would embark on a comprehensive nationwide strike.

The labour unions also dismissed claims by some state governors that negotiations were ongoing with workers regarding a proposed N100,000 minimum wage, insisting that such assertions do not reflect the current realities of discussions on workers’ welfare.

According to them, the statements being circulated by some government officials do not align with the actual position of ongoing engagements on labour matters.
