Ooni Of Ife Honours Baba Ijesha With Chieftaincy Title, Gifts

The Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, has conferred a chieftaincy title on Nollywood actor Olanrewaju Omiyinka and presented him with gifts, including a brand-new car.

The actor announced the development in a post on his social media pages, expressing appreciation to the revered monarch for the honour and warm reception accorded to him and his wife during their visit to the palace.

According to Baba Ijesha, he was installed as the Baba Awada Konge Oduwa, describing the recognition as a memorable moment in his life and career.

He thanked the Ooni for the fatherly support, hospitality and confidence reposed in him, noting that the monarch also presented him and his wife with valuable gifts.

“I sincerely appreciate His Imperial Majesty for the honour, the warm reception, and the fatherly love shown to me and my family,” the actor said.

The development has generated mixed reactions on social media, with many congratulating the actor on the recognition, while others questioned the decision in light of his previous legal controversies.

Meanwhile, the Ooni’s palace had not issued an official statement on the conferment at the time of filing this report.

Baba Ijesha was convicted in 2022 over charges relating to the sexual assault of a minor and served a prison sentence before regaining his freedom. His recent honour by the traditional ruler has since sparked renewed public debate.
