President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced the launch of The Power Force, a new initiative under the Presidential Metering Initiative (PMI) aimed at training and engaging 5,000 young Nigerians as meter installers and technicians.
The President said the programme forms part of his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, with a focus on job creation, skills development and improving Nigeria’s electricity sector.
According to him, the initiative is designed to close the country’s metering gap, eliminate estimated billing, protect electricity consumers and strengthen the power market.
Tinubu explained that beneficiaries would receive practical technical training and be linked to employment opportunities in the electricity sector, describing the programme as one that promotes “jobs, skills and dignity.”
He stated that the opportunity is open to eligible Nigerians who have completed their secondary school education, while a dedicated quota has been reserved for members of the National Youth Service Corps.
The President noted that improved metering would ensure consumers pay only for electricity they use while enabling distribution companies to collect revenue more transparently, reduce losses, maintain infrastructure, expand connections and improve service delivery.
He added that he had directed the Presidential Metering Initiative to collaborate with the Federal Ministry of Youth Development, the National Power Training Institute of Nigeria and other relevant stakeholders to commence the programme within the next 30 days.
Tinubu urged eligible young Nigerians to take advantage of the opportunity by applying through the programme’s online portal, which opens on July 4, 2026.
The President encouraged interested applicants to “Join The Power Force, learn a skill, earn with dignity, help end estimated billing and be part of the effort to light up Nigeria.”
