Kwara State indigenes among the 200 exceptional former Corps Members honoured by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu have commended the President one year after the recognition, saying the administration has fulfilled its promises of automatic employment, cash rewards and scholarships.
In an appreciation message issued on Wednesday obtained by 9japarrot, the 2020–2023 NYSC Presidential Honours Awardees from Kwara State said the award marked on July 29, 2025 remains the highest national recognition for outstanding service during the National Youth Service.
The recipients were selected through a rigorous and transparent process from thousands of Corps Members nationwide for their contributions in community development projects, leadership, integrity, patriotism, innovation, volunteerism and selfless service. Ten beneficiaries of the Hope Alive Programme were also honoured.
“As we commemorate this milestone, we, the 2020–2023 NYSC Presidential Honours Awardees who are indigenes of Kwara State, express our heartfelt appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for not only recognising our contributions but also fulfilling his administration’s promises,” the statement said.
It listed the fulfilled interventions to include automatic employment into the Federal Civil Service, cash rewards, scholarships in Nigerian universities with funding, and inclusion in the Hope Alive Programme.
The awardees said the interventions have “further demonstrated the Federal Government’s commitment to rewarding excellence and inspiring young Nigerians to serve their country with dedication and selflessness.”
They also appreciated the Honourable Minister of Youth Development, Comrade Ayodele Olawande; the Director-General of NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu; NYSC Management; State Coordinators; and the Presidential Honours Award Selection Committee led by Mr. Ayodele Omotade “for professionalism, fairness, and commitment to preserving the credibility and prestige of the award.”
Gratitude was also extended to Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, CON; the Commissioner for Youth Development, Ambassador Ndanusa Usman Shehu; members of the State Executive Council; traditional rulers; Local Government Chairmen; parents, mentors and well-wishers.
The Kwara indigenes commended the Governors of Rivers, Ondo and Abia states for complementing the Federal Government’s recognition by offering employment, financial rewards and other incentives to awardees from their states. They urged other state governments to do same “to further encourage excellence, patriotism, and selfless service across Nigeria.”
“As recipients of this prestigious national honour, we remain committed to community development, ethical leadership, volunteerism, and nation-building,” the statement added. “We will continue to serve as worthy ambassadors of Kwara State and Nigeria, inspiring younger generations to uphold integrity, pursue excellence, and contribute meaningfully to national progress.”
The NYSC Presidential Honours Award recognises Corps Members who distinguish themselves during their service year from 2020 to 2023.
