Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, is determined to ensure that every child of school age has access to basic education before the end of his administration.
The Executive Chairman of the Kaduna State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Malam Mubarak Mohammed, disclosed this on Wednesday during the 2026/2027 School Enrollment Campaign at Sheikh Abubakar Gumi Market.
Mubarak said education is a right in Kaduna State under the Uba Sani administration, stressing that basic education is free and should not be regarded as a privilege.
He warned that children of school age should not be found roaming the streets during school hours, urging parents and guardians to enroll their children and wards in school.
The SUBEB chairman also expressed concern over the high number of out of school children in Northern Nigeria, while commending Governor Sani for the progress recorded in Kaduna State.
According to him, the administration has successfully returned more than 360,000 children to school, reducing the number of out-of-school children in the state from over 500,000.
He further disclosed that SUBEB has constructed more than 2,000 classrooms to accommodate the growing number of pupils returning to school.
Mubarak described education as “the greatest leveler,” capable of lifting children from humble backgrounds to greater heights, and called on parents and guardians to take advantage of the government’s free basic education programme.
The 2026/2027 School Enrollment Campaign was launched last Wednesday, with senior government officials, education stakeholders and SUBEB staff embarking on a road walk from the State Secretariat to Sheikh Abubakar Gumi Market to sensitise residents on the importance of basic education.
During the advocacy campaign, five children presented themselves for enrollment. The Executive Chairman subsequently directed relevant officials to ensure that the children were enrolled in primary school.
