A Kano State Sharia Court has directed the state correctional authorities to give special care and adequate medical attention to Yusuf Mahmud Rano, who allegedly cut off his finger after reportedly being promised N80 million for it.
The court, sitting in Jogana, issued the directive during proceedings in the case involving Yusuf and four other defendants accused of conspiracy and attempted sorcery.
The court was expected to deliver judgment on Monday but could not proceed because government lawyers were scheduled to take part in the case.
Presiding over the matter, Malam Kamalu Haruna said the case had been adjourned until Thursday, September 17, 2026. He also ordered that the first to fourth defendants remain in custody until the next hearing.
The judge specifically instructed the Kano State Correctional Service to ensure that Yusuf receives proper medical treatment and is given special attention while in custody.
The Kano State Police Command had charged Abdurrahman Abbas Kwasamgwami Gezawa, Sha’aibu Yawale Daganawa Bunkure, Abubakar Iliyasu Zangon Dakata, Ishaq Isah Rano and Yusuf Mahmud Rano with the offences. The police said the five defendants pleaded guilty during the previous court sitting.
