Two men have been arrested by the police in Adamawa State for allegedly stealing irrigation pipes from a farm belonging to the late elder statesman, Bamanga Tukur.
The Adamawa State Police Command disclosed the arrest on Friday, less than a week after the death of the former Gongola State governor.
According to the command, the suspects allegedly stole eight underground irrigation water pipes valued at N3 million from Tukur’s farm in Yola South Local Government Area.
The suspects were identified as 45-year-old Ibrahim Mohammed of Wauro Jabbe and 28-year-old Jemilu Yahaya, a scavenger from Jambutu Bypass. They were arrested by operatives of the Kofare Divisional Police Headquarters in Yola following credible intelligence.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje, said preliminary investigations showed that Mohammed allegedly stole the pipes and sold them to Yahaya.
He added that the police recovered the stolen irrigation pipes and a Carry-Go motorcycle allegedly used in the operation.
The suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue. The command said they would be charged to court after the conclusion of the investigation.
