The Kwara State Police Command has dismissed reports circulating on social media that a motorcyclist was shot by police officers during an incident at Oyun Bridge, Ilorin.
The Command, in a statement issued on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, said no person was shot during the incident, describing the viral claims as inaccurate.
According to the statement, the incident occurred during a routine patrol and stop and search operation around the Oyun Bridge area.
The Command identified the motorcyclist as 23-year old Abdurasaq Lukman and alleged that he was riding at high speed when he collided with Corporal Saka Azeez, a police officer who was on duty at the location.
The police said the collision resulted in serious head injuries and a fracture for Corporal Azeez, while Lukman sustained minor injuries.
Following the incident, the Command said officers at the scene took both the injured policeman and the motorcyclist to a medical facility for treatment.
Lukman was reportedly treated and discharged from the facility but remains in police custody while assisting investigators with inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Meanwhile, Corporal Azeez remains under medical care and is expected to undergo further examinations and scans to determine the extent of his head injuries.
The Command urged members of the public to exercise caution when sharing information about sensitive incidents, particularly where allegations involving security personnel are concerned.
Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command, CP Ojo AdeKimi, psc, mnips, acknowledged public concerns regarding police activities but stressed the need for information to be verified before being circulated.
The statement was signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire Adeyemi, ANIPR, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police.
The clarification follows the circulation of videos and accompanying claims on social media alleging that the motorcyclist was shot by police personnel at the Oyun Bridge area.
The Command said investigations into the incident are ongoing.
