Panic has gripped residents of Igbokoda, headquarters of Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State, following reports that a helicopter crashed in the coastal community on Monday.
The incident, according to Vanguard, sparked concern among residents, although details surrounding the reported crash remained sketchy as of press time.
The identity of the helicopter, the number of people on board and the exact location of the reported crash could not be immediately established.
A community leader, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed the incident but said residents were still trying to ascertain further details.
“Yes, it is true. A helicopter crashed at Igbokoda, Ondo State, but we don’t know the exact place and other details,” he said.
When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Jimoh Abayomi, said he was not aware of the incident.
Abayomi, however, said he would conduct further checks and get back to journalists.
As of press time, there was no official confirmation of the reported casualties or the identity and details of the aircraft involved.
