Members of the Tinubu Youth Force in Kwara State have formally defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), declaring support for the opposition platform ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The defection took place on Tuesday at the PDP Secretariat in Ajase-Ipo, Kwara State, during a ceremony attended by party chieftains, stakeholders, and community leaders.
The event was facilitated by PDP chieftain, Otunba Adetunji Oyabambi, who was represented by Engr. Sunbo Ahmed Sheriff.
Speaking at the reception, the Chairman of the Tinubu Youth Force, Prince (Dr.) Ambali Sikiru Abidemi, said the group’s decision to dump the ruling party was voluntary and motivated by their assessment of political developments in the state.
“We were neither forced nor financially induced to join the PDP,” Abidemi stated.
“We chose the PDP because we believe it offers a better platform and has the capacity to better represent the interests of our people ahead of the 2027 elections.”

He added that the group maintains confidence in the leadership and political experience of former Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, to guide credible candidates to victory.
Addressing the new members, Engr. Sunbo Ahmed Sheriff urged the defectors to carry out peaceful grassroots engagement in their respective communities and assured them that their interests would be protected within the party structure.
Similarly, the Kwara South Senatorial District PDP Women Leader, Chief (Mrs.) Margaret, noted that the reception in Ajase-Ipo was part of a broader wave of alignment toward the PDP across local government areas in Kwara South and other parts of the state.
Receiving the defectors, the Kwara State PDP Publicity Secretary, Hon. Segun Adewara, welcomed the youth group and described the defection as a reflection of public dissatisfaction with the current administration.
Adewara urged party members to maintain unity, expressing confidence that more members from the ruling party would align with the PDP ahead of the 2027 polls.
