Setting the Record Straight: Exposing Political Ingratitude in Irepodun

By Segun Ogunlowo, Ajase 1

My attention has been drawn to a desperate social media post by Alade Temitope attempting to twist the narrative.

The post labels Chief Gbenga Awoyale a traitor, either willfully ignoring or completely blind to the unvarnished truth: that Prince Lekan Adewoye is the actual betrayer of the people.

It is time to set the record straight and call out political hypocrisy where it lives.

The Reality of Political Ingratitude
Calling Chief Gbenga Awoyale a traitor on social media is nothing more than a face saving trick by Prince Lekan Adewoye and his camp to distort a principled stand into something Ugly.

Everyone across Kwara South knows the facts:

A Structure He Didn’t Build: Prince Lekan Adewoye has no independent political structure of his own.

The very platform he is riding on today was built exclusively through the sweat, sacrifice, and financial commitment of leaders like Council Chairman Alhaji Azeez Yakubu, Hon. Sola Odetundun, and Chief Gbenga Awoyale.

Heavy Personal Investment: Chief Awoyale spent his time, money, and resources, contributing millions of Naira, to this project.

As I, Segun Ogunlowo, and many others deeply involved can attest, Chief Awoyale traveled far and wide on behalf of Prince Lekan Adewoye even before he returned home.

Without the foundational structure that brought him on board, Prince Lekan Adewoye is politically weightless.

Yet, in a display of supreme political ingratitude, he has chosen to bite the very fingers that fed him.

What Caused the Friction?

The truth behind the fallout is clear for all to see:

Sponsoring an Outsider over a True Son of the Soil: Prince Lekan Adewoye arrogantly boasted that he would spend his “last card” to ensure that Mr. Olayinka Fafoluyi (SOLACE) an indigene of Ondo Town, emerges for the House of Assembly seat, shoving aside the local leaders who built the very vehicle he is using.

A Complete Stranger to Irepodun: Mr. Olayinka Fafoluyi has never been rooted in Irepodun.

He did not even vote in the last chairmanship election.

In fact, both Fafoluyi and Prince Lekan Adewoye only just transferred their voter cards to Irepodun in 2026.

How can someone who moved their voting documents into the local government overnight be foisted on the good people of Irepodun?

Fighting Homegrown Leadership: Prince Adewoye shamelessly turned around to disown and fight the current House of Assembly member, Hon. Sola Odetundun, simply to force an outsider whose credentials do not serve Irepodun upon our people.

Furthermore, Prince Adewoye’s political isolation is growing by the day.

He currently has virtually no genuine political allies left.

Even Florence, who once associated with him, has publicly distanced herself after being warned that aligning with Prince Lekan Adewoye would be a major political setback.

If you look back at his declaration event in Ajase, not a single major stakeholder from Kwara South showed up.

True to his growing reputation, Prince Lekan Adewoye has a habit of dismissing anyone who disagrees with SYD style or leadership.

Instead, he prefers to associate with political lightweights like Kayode Ogunlowo, who cannot even win his own polling unit.

Compounding this disconnect, Prince Lekan Adewoye stands out as the only candidate who avoids grassroots campaign rallies like other opposition candidates do; his entire playbook consists of showing up merely to donate money wherever there is an inauguration.

The Noble Stance
When Chief Gbenga Awoyale and other stakeholders were pressured by Prince Lekan Adewoye to support this absurdity, Chief Awoyale looked him in the eye and delivered the Ultimate reality check: he can never betray his people.

So, ask yourself: Who is the real traitor here?

Is it the man who built the structure, protected his heritage, and refused to sell out his people?

Or the man using a structure he didn’t build to campaign for an Ondo State indigene who only just transferred his voters card to Irepodun in 2026, while fighting homegrown leaders like Hon. Sola Odetundun and Alhaji Azeez Yakubu?

Chief Gbenga Awoyale didn’t betray anyone; he stood up to protect us.

He refused to mortgage the mandate of Irepodun and Kwara South for selfish arrangements.

Go and ask Prince Lekan Adewoye what happened.

Chief Awoyale told him the truth, and Kwara South knows that our mandate is not for sale, and our platform will never be used to sell out our own people.

Stand firm, Chief.

The people see the truth
