Tajudeen Abbas, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, has announced that the 10th National Assembly is committed to addressing the issue of multiple taxation in the country. He stated that this would be accomplished through the introduction of a bill to rectify the problem. Abbas made these remarks during a courtesy visit by the South Korean Ambassador to Nigeria, Lee Hun Seung, in Abuja on Tuesday.
Abbas mentioned that a committee had been established to tackle the issue, emphasizing the mutual understanding between Nigeria and South Korea in resolving it for the benefit of businesses. He pointed out that South Korea has more than 20 companies in Nigeria with investments worth over N3 billion, and encouraged further collaboration to encourage increased trade and investment.
Abbas praised the strong relationship between the parliaments of both countries since 2015, considering it a valuable investment. He emphasized the focus of the 10th Assembly on strengthening economic ties between Nigeria and South Korea. He urged the South Korean parliament to continue working together with the Nigerian parliament to enhance legislation that would further improve relations.
He also called for increased promotion of business by organizing trade and investment opportunities in the mining and petroleum sectors. Meanwhile, Lee Hun Seung expressed South Korea’s willingness to assist Nigeria in the field of technology, citing the country’s technological advancements. He proposed establishing a partnership that would benefit both nations, highlighting Nigeria as South Korea’s largest trading partner in Africa.
Seung mentioned an upcoming G20 meeting in September, where President Bola Tinubu would be in attendance. He revealed that the South Korean President and Tinubu would hold further discussions on partnership, predicting that the meeting would provide a new foundation for stronger relations between Nigeria and South Korea. Seung also congratulated President Tinubu on his election victory.
