The ad-hoc Committee of the House of Representatives, which is investigating the N2.3 trillion expenditure by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TetFund), has revealed that over N40 billion has been disbursed to six institutions in Borno.
The committee, led by Rep. Edem Unyime, made this announcement during a visit to Governor Babagana Zulum in Maiduguri.
Unyime stated that the purpose of their visit was to verify the claims made by the benefitting institutions.
He also mentioned that the committee was established in response to a petition against TetFund regarding the alleged misuse of N2.3 trillion.
The committee aims to ensure that the projects and programs funded by TetFund are in line with the amount of money released.
Unyime assured that the committee would conduct a thorough and transparent investigation and would provide recommendations on how to further support TetFund with additional funding.
In response, Governor Zulum urged the committee to carry out their assignment diligently and provide recommendations that would guide the management of scarce resources by both tertiary institutions and TetFund.
Zulum acknowledged the positive impact of TetFund’s interventions in various projects within the institutions and expressed his belief that the investigation’s outcome would benefit the institutions in managing their limited resources effectively.
