In Ogun State, the police have apprehended a well-known suspected individual named Tope Mutairu, who is believed to be a member of the Eiye Confraternity.

Mutairu, also known as ‘Caution’, had been on the police radar for causing havoc in the Igbeba community, located in the Ijebu-Ode Area of the state.

According to an anonymous source in the community, Mutairu had been wanted by the police for committing various crimes alongside his gang. After his whereabouts remained unknown, he resurfaced on September 3, 2023, and continued to engage in criminal activities.

The source informed journalists that the police were alerted and they swiftly arrived at the community while the group was conducting a meeting at a known trouble spot.

“The police arrived promptly and caught them in the act. Although the other members of the gang managed to escape upon seeing the police, Caution, who was a person of interest, was pursued and apprehended by the police team,” the source stated.

The State Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the arrest of the suspect during an interview with journalists on Thursday. She mentioned that after the interrogation, the case would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department.

“While the remaining members of the suspected Eiye Confraternity group fled the scene upon spotting our Anti-Crime and Surveillance Unit, the 36-year-old suspect known as Caution was apprehended by our courageous officers after a challenging pursuit,” Odutola explained.

She further added, “Our men are making every effort to arrest the other members of the confraternity. Caution, who resides on Imupa Street, Ijebu-Ode, has admitted to being a member of the group and is currently undergoing intensive questioning.”

Once the investigation is complete, the suspect will be promptly transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department.
