The Nigeria Governors Spouses Forum on Tuesday the 5th of December held its annual conference with the theme Youth Allies: Bridging Generations to End Violence,”
Speaking during the event the chairperson of Nigeria Governors Spouses Forum and First Lady of Kwara State Ambassador Prof Olufolake Abdulrazaq highlighted the efforts of the Forum at stemming incidents of sexual and gender based violence in Nigeria.
In line with the theme of this year’s conference Ambassador Abdulrazaq observed that fostering intergenerational collaboration and understanding has become imperative in our resolve to continue to deepen engagements and partnership to end gender based violence.
In his remarks at the event the chairman Nigeria Governors Forum and Governor of Kwara State His Excellency Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq (CON) acknowledged the commitments of the NGSF to vigorouslyackle gender-based violence and other unhealthy practices.
Highlights of the event include the signing of memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the Nigeria Governors Spouses Forum and UNICEF. This is believed would create a work plan towards ending GBV completely in collaboration with UN women.
The event had in attendance first ladies from across the 36 States, Ministers and other top government functionaries, seasoned women’s rights advocates and partners of the forum such as UNICEF, UN women, USAID and British High Commission to mention a few.
The annual conference of the Nigeria Governors Spouses Forum is held in the first week of December every year to commemorate the global 16 days of activism against gender based violence.
