Senator Saliu Mustapha, representing Kwara Central at the National Assembly, has urged the Executive to display political will by allocating a minimum of 10% of national budgets and revenues to boost agricultural growth.
Saliu who is the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Agricultural Production, Services & Rural Development, he emphasized this point during the Joint 2024 Budget Defense, highlighting the importance of the session in holding accountable the relevant ministries and agencies.
Senator Mustapha commended the collaborative efforts of both Chambers in expeditiously passing the 2024 Budget, praising President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for aiming to return to the January to December Budget cycle.
Expressing concern for the agricultural sector’s insufficient budget allocation, he emphasized its potential to alleviate poverty and ensure food security, urging the Executive to honor the 10% commitment made under the Maputo Declaration.
Senator Mustapha affirmed the Committee’s dedication to addressing agricultural challenges promptly and responsibly, aligning with national economic policies.
