-Restate Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazak’s effort to a drug free Kwara
In a decisive move to tackle the menace of drug abuse in Kwara State, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Drug Abuse Prevention and Control, Aileru Olamilekan Mukail, yesterday convened a crucial meeting with the Kwara State Drug Control Committee. The meeting held at Kwara State Ministry of Health was a vibrant forum for strategizing and reaffirming the unwavering commitment of the AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq administration to creating a drug-free Kwara.
Aileru Olamilekan Mukail opened the discussion by highlighting the devastating impact of drug abuse on individuals, families, and communities across the state. He emphasized Governor AbdulRazaq’s unwavering resolve to combat this challenge and expressed his confidence in the expertise and dedication of the Drug Control Committee.
“Drug abuse is not just a social issue; it is a threat to the very fabric of our society,” stated Mukail. “It steals lives, destroys families, and hinders our collective progress. Under Governor AbdulRazaq’s leadership, we are committed to turning the tide and building a Kwara where our youth thrive in an environment free from the clutches of addiction. “
The meeting served as a platform for a comprehensive review of the state’s current anti-drug strategies and initiatives. Members of the Drug Control Committee, representing diverse stakeholders from law enforcement agencies, healthcare professionals, educational institutions, and civil society organizations, actively engaged in a productive exchange of ideas and best practices.
Key areas of focus during the discussion included:
Enhancing drug prevention efforts: Strengthening awareness campaigns, particularly targeting vulnerable youth, and promoting community-based prevention programs.
Expanding access to treatment and rehabilitation: Improving the accessibility and quality of drug treatment services across the state, ensuring individuals have the support they need to overcome addiction.
Strengthening law enforcement and prosecution: Intensifying efforts to crack down on drug trafficking and distribution networks while upholding the rights of individuals caught in the throes of addiction.
Introducing technology in prevention: Through the creation of mobile applications embedded with drug abuse prevention information,
Fostering inter-agency collaboration: Establishing a robust framework for coordinated action among all stakeholders involved in the fight against drug abuse.
