Kidnappers have demanded N500m ransom to free the abducted Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Edo State, Tony Aziegbemi.
Aziegbemi was kidnapped on March 15, at about 11 pm on Idaro Street, off Country Home Road, Benin, Edo State.
He was said to have left a meeting at the Government House and was going home in his vehicle when he was waylaid and kidnapped in the presence of his driver, who was attempting to climb a speed breaker.
A family source, who pleaded anonymity, told journalists on Sunday that the kidnappers had contacted the family and demanded N500m ransom.
According to the source, the abductors contacted the family on Friday.
“The kidnappers have contacted the family of Tony Aziegbemi and they have demanded N500m ransom.
“I can’t say what the family members are doing to raise the money or if the party, the PDP is doing anything to assist them,” the source said.
When contacted, the Edo State Police Command spokesman, Chidi Nwabuzor, said the police were not aware of the ransom demand.
“I am not aware of any ransom demand. I can only confirm What I am aware of,” he said.
