The Deputy Senate Leader and senator representing Kwara South Senatorial district, Senator Oyelola Ashiru, has commiserated with the people of Owode and Offa Local Government Area over the unfortunate fire disaster which claimed goods worth millions of Naira at Owode market in early hours of Tuesday morning.
The Senator expresses sadness during his visit to the Owode market to offer sympathy to the victims of the fire incident. Describing it as heartbreaking to learn about the devastating fire that swept through the market.
He added that the incident is an unfortunate event occurring at a time when the economy is severely impacting people.
Receiving the Senator, the Iyaloja and Babaloja expressed their appreciation to the Lawmaker for his leadership style and for visiting to sympathize with the people.
They revealed that approximately 31 stores were impacted, primarily the food store part of the market known as “Iso Isu” Yam’s market, where varieties of food items were stored.
The Senator, speaking to the victims at the presence of Oloofa of Offa, OBA Muftau Gbadamosi, pledged to assist in providing NEMA relief supplies and to contribute a donation of 5 million Naira to the victims.
The Oloofa of Offa, Oba Mufutau Gbadamosi, also promised to give each victim the sum of N25,000 in addition to the financial gesture of the Senator, while urging the government to intervene in the predicament of the victims.
The Owode market holds the records as the largest market in the Kwara South Senatorial district, making significant contributions to the internally generated revenue (IGR) of Kwara State. This market has been operational for more than 60 years.
