Canada Reacts To Reports of Visa Denial For Nigeria’s Defence Chief, Other Military Officers

The Canadian High Commission in Nigeria has addressed reports concerning the alleged denial of visas to the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, and other senior Nigerian military officials.

In a statement released on Friday, the High Commission acknowledged awareness of the media reports but declined to discuss specific visa applications, citing confidentiality policies.

“The High Commission of Canada in Nigeria is aware of media reports related to planned travel by senior officials. However, for privacy reasons, we are unable to comment on the status of visa applications of specific individuals,” the statement read.

Recall that it was earlier reported that the Nigerian officials were invited to an event in Canada to honour war veterans. While some members of the delegation were granted visas, others were reportedly denied entry, sparking frustration.

Addressing the issue at the maiden annual lecture of the National Association of the Institute for Security Studies in Abuja on Thursday, General Musa expressed disappointment over the situation, calling it a “wake-up call” for Nigeria.

“This is a reminder that we must stand on our own, stand strong as a nation, and refuse to be taken for granted,” he stated.

Reacting to the development, National Security Adviser (NSA) Nuhu Ribadu strongly criticized the visa denials, calling them “disrespectful” and remarking that “Canada can go to hell.”
