Recruitment Exercise: Customs Announce Mandatory Drug Test for New Operatives

The Nigeria Customs Service has approved compulsory drug testing for all prospective officers as part of its ongoing recruitment exercise.

Comptroller-General, Adewale Adeniyi announced the new requirement at the closing session of the CGC’s 2025 Conference in Abuja, stressing that the move is intended to prevent individuals with substance-abuse issues from entering the Service.

Adeniyi said the directive will apply immediately to fresh recruits, while serving personnel will also undergo screening as the agency works toward becoming “a fully drug-free institution.”

“There will be no compromise. We will ensure every new officer is tested so we don’t end up spending Service resources rehabilitating personnel,” he stated.

Adeniyi added that the measure was designed to ensure that no recruit enters the service with substance-abuse tendencies that could compromise judgement, security responsibilities, or operational integrity.
