Edu APC LG Executives Condemn Hon. Yisa Saba Gideon’s Suspension

••• Accuse Speaker Danladi of Power Abuse

The political crisis rocking the Kwara State House of Assembly over the suspension of the lawmaker representing Edu Constituency, Hon. Yisa Saba Gideon, escalated on January 8, 2026, as 81 out of 90 Ward and APC Local Government Executives from the Tsaragi District (Wards 1, 2, and 3) of Edu LGA issued a formal statement condemning the action.

The grassroots leaders convened a press briefing to reject the suspension as null, void, and unconstitutional arguing that it constitutes a direct attack on the sovereignty of the electorate.

The statement took direct aim at the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, who represents the Ilesha/Gwanara Constituency in Baruten LGA.

The executives argued that the Speaker cannot silence the majority votes of Edu Constituency, contrasting their massive mandate with the Speaker’s claim to control only five wards in his constituency.

They accused the Speaker of acting beyond constitutional provisions, labeling the move an abuse of office that threatens the integrity of democratic institutions.

“Democracy belongs to the people, not to individual power holders.” they noted.

The executives emphasized that the suspension has no support at the grassroots level, declaring that the people of Edu remain firmly behind Hon. Yisa Saba Gideon, whose leadership and legislative record reflect the aspirations of his constituents.

They categorically rejected the suspension and demanded the immediate restoration of Hon. Yisa Gideon.

In a key move, the executives appealed directly to the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, CON, to intervene in the matter.

“We have absolute confidence in his leadership, his commitment to fairness, due process, and the rule of law, and we believe that with his guidance, the people’s mandate will be protected.” the group said.

They reaffirmed their loyalty to the Governor’s vision for good governance while demanding strict adherence to due process and the constitutional protection of the mandate given by the people of Edu Constituency.

9japarrot reports that Hon. Yisa Saba Gideon was suspended for three months by the Kwara Assembly on December 18, 2025, for alleged contempt and breach of legislative privilege.

The Assembly cited Order 4, Rule 14 of its rules, claiming the lawmaker secretly recorded a closed-door meeting and shared the audio with an unauthorized person—an act the House claimed Gideon admitted to.

However, the Edu Constituency leaders maintained that the suspension contravenes the principles of natural justice and due process.

They pledged to continue pursuing the matter through legitimate, constitutional, and peaceful channels.
