Thomas Adewumi University Admits Historic First MBBS Class as 967 Students Take Oath at 6th Matriculation Ceremony

The Vice Chancellor of Thomas Adewumi University (TAU), Prof Francisca Oladipo has disclosed that the institute is committed to shaping the destinies of its students beyond just degree qualification.

The Yeye Atunluse of Oko-Irese Kingdom disclosed this during the matriculation ceremony of the university where 967 new students were admitted into its academic fold on Saturday.

Delivering the matriculation address to the “Class of Team Flourite,” comprising 939 undergraduate and 29 postgraduate students, including the university’s historic first set of MBBS, she highlighted the university’s meteoric rise, noting that in just five years, TAU has outpaced its 25-year development plan.

In her remarks, she noted that the University currently ranks 4th out of 13 universities in Kwara State and 45th out of 312 nationally.

She added that the institution boasts partnerships with MIT, Harvard, Stanford, and Google, hosting a mirror of MIT’s OpenCourseware to serve Sub-Saharan Africa, making a globally recognised institute.

Prof Francisca added that the campus is a leader in green energy, powered significantly by solar and producing 75% of its own food via sustainable agriculture making a sustainable academic environment for learning.

The Vice-Chancellor emphasized that a degree from the University is a declaration of competence and not just a document, charging graduate, students to meet the four unique pillars of the institute cutting across fluency in one of four UN languages (French, Arabic, Mandarin, or German) through the Foreign Language Centre, at least two micro-credentials from partners like IBM, Microsoft, Huawei, or Oracle, mentorship by professionals from Google and Atlassian to transform students from job seekers into job creators and completion of a mandatory 60 hours of Community Service.

“Others may have been admitted into older and larger universities, but we guarantee that no one will receive the kind of globally-connected, technology-enabled education that you will receive at TAU” She added.

Administering the oath taking, the Registrar, Mr. Fisoye Opemipo Kolawole MNIM, MANUPA urges the newly matriculated Student to shun Examination malpractice, cultism and all forms of social vices which may lead them to outrightly losing their admission and rusticated from the school.

He urged them to uphold the already established rules and guidelines of the university to enable them to have a successful academic journey.

Addressing the broader state of the nation, Engr. Adewumi linked the recent rise in regional insecurity to the abundance of mineral resources in the area.

He lauded Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and President Bola Tinubu for their efforts in curtailing insecurity, while commending their behind the scenes effort in ensuring continuous safety of people.

The founder reassured parents that the university has invested heavily in security measures, working closely with the Nigerian Army to ensure a safe learning environment.

Delivering his goodwill message, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Professor Victor Olanrewaju, urged the matriculants to involve God in their pursuits and maintain a high energy for success.

He commended the founder and the institute management for their continuous efforts in ensuring the university keeps breaking barriers.
