A coalition of All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders, youth groups, professionals, and grassroots mobilizers has called for unity across Kwara State ahead of the 2027 governorship primaries, emphasizing that divisive politics and parochial sentiments must be rejected in favor of inclusive leadership. At a press conference in Ilorin on Wednesday, the group publicly endorsed Senator (Dr.) Ibrahim Yahaya Oloriegbe as the aspirant best positioned to unite the state and drive development.
Speaking on behalf of the coalition, leaders stressed that the strength of Kwara lies in the cohesion of its people across the three senatorial districts—Kwara North, South, and Central.
They warned that allowing narrow interests or regional divides to influence candidate selection could undermine the state’s progress and the APC’s mandate.
“Kwara State cannot afford disunity,” one coalition representative said. “We need leadership that transcends sectionalism and prioritizes the collective interest of all Kwarans.”
The coalition highlighted Oloriegbe’s unique credentials for fostering state-wide unity. Citing his decades-long personal and professional connections across the state, they noted that there is virtually no community in Kwara where the Senator does not have long-standing relationships. From his formative years in public primary and secondary schools in Ilorin, through his time at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and into his political and legislative career, Oloriegbe has consistently maintained ties with people from diverse communities. Many of his childhood friends, classmates, and contemporaries remain close to him, providing both support and counsel.
The coalition also underscored that Oloriegbe’s cross-regional engagement goes beyond political networking. His initiatives in healthcare, education, and community development—such as facilitating federal health institutions and schools across the state—demonstrate a tangible commitment to inclusive progress. These interventions, the coalition argued, reflect his understanding that development must benefit every community, not just select constituencies.
In conclusion, the coalition urged party leaders and delegates to prioritize unity, competence, and inclusivity when considering governorship aspirants. “We call on all Kwarans and APC stakeholders to rise above sectionalism and support a candidate whose life-long dedication to the state, cross-regional relationships, and proven leadership record make him the natural choice for continuity, stability, and growth,” the coalition stated.
