“If I Had the Power, I Would Hand the Ticket to You Today” — APC Chairman Tells Gbenga Makanjuola

The Kwara State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prince Sunday Fagbemi has described a former House of Representatives member, Hon. (Barr.) Gbenga Peter Makanjuola as a politician of immense value whose track record speaks for itself.

Prince Fagbemi made these remarks on Tuesday at the party’s state secretariat in Ilorin, during the official submission of Makanjuola’s letter of intent to contest for the Kwara South Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections.

The Chairman, who was visibly impressed by the aspirant’s presentation, noted that Makanjuola’s humility and straightforward nature make him a standout candidate within the party.

“You are very modest, humble, and straightforward. It’s only that I don’t have the power; if I had the power, I would just hand over the ticket to you right now today,” the Chairman said.

Recalling Makanjuola’s political journey, Fagbemi revealed that even when they belonged to opposing political camps, the APC leadership recognized his worth and actively sought to bring him into their fold.

“Hon. Makanjuola, I can say for sure, is a man with the fear of God. Even though we were in a different party then, we knew his value, and that is why we were running after him to come and join us,” he added.

Earlier, while addressing the State Working Committee, Hon. Gbenga Makanjuola centered his ambition on the “fear of God” and the “essence of accessibility.” He argued that academic titles and professional status amount to nothing in representation if a leader is disconnected from the yearnings of the people.

“The essence of representation is to protect the interests of your people, to listen to their aspirations. It is not rocket science,” Makanjuola said.

“I am going to start with the fear of God. When I was in the National Assembly for eight years, I did what I believed should be done. I came back home to say thank you.” He added.

The aspirant, who represented Oke-Ero/Isin/Irepodun/Ekiti Federal Constituency for two terms, highlighted his deep-rooted experience within the National Assembly. Beyond his time as a lawmaker, Makanjuola served as the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Senate President and spent an additional eight years within the Senate leadership structure.

“In some 16 years of my life, I spent them inside the National Assembly. I know the rudiments; I know the workings,” he said.

“I am coming before you to request an opportunity. If I am given the grace of God to represent the people, I will not disappoint this party or the people of Kwara South.”

In his closing response, Prince Fagbemi prayed for the aspirant, reminding him that political victory ultimately rests with the Almighty.

“My brother, you know God that the battle is not for the strongest, nor the race for the swiftest. It’s only God that shows mercy, God will show you mercy,” the Chairman concluded.

9japarrot reports that the submission of the intent letter by Barr. Makanjuola, a seasoned legal practitioner and legislative expert, further intensifies the race for the Kwara South Senatorial ticket, as he positions himself as a candidate of experience, integrity, and grassroots loyalty.
