CVR: With 50% in Total, Kwara Central Maintains Dominance in Fresh INEC Voters Registration Exercise

Kwara Central Senatorial District recorded the highest number of new voters in Kwara State during the first and second phases of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Data from INEC’s Week 14 update show that Kwara Central accounted for 90,536 registrations—about 50 per cent of the state’s total—placing it ahead of Kwara South and Kwara North, which recorded 46,361 and 44,045 registrations respectively.

An analysis of local government figures even more specifically highlights the district’s dominance. Ilorin West Local Government Area (LGA) alone registered 29,908 voters, exceeding figures recorded in some of the largest LGAs in other districts, including Kaiama (15,534) in Kwara North and Ifelodun (13,894) in Kwara South.

Similarly, Asa LGA, the smallest bloc in Kwara Central, recorded 11,689 registrations, outperforming several LGAs in Kwara North and remaining competitive with most LGAs in Kwara South.

The figures underscore Kwara Central’s growing electoral strength, a trend that political stakeholders in the Ilorin Emirate say they intend to consolidate ahead of the 2027 general elections.

It will be recalled that the Ilorin Emirate Political Advisory Council recently said it is targeting one million registered voters through sustained mobilisation across communities in the emirate.

Speaking during a media briefing in Ilorin, the council’s National Coordinator, Dr. Yakub Yahaya Oloriegbe, said the target is based on an assessment of progress made since the commencement of the CVR exercise in 2025.

The council said it had intensified grassroots engagement involving traditional and religious leaders, youth groups, artisans, transporters and market associations to boost participation.

“With the third phase of the exercise set to begin soon, we are optimistic that our collective efforts will significantly expand our voter base to an average of one million registered voters,” the council said.

It also signalled its political stance ahead of thqe 2027 elections, stating that the Ilorin Emirate would adopt a unified approach by supporting only political parties and candidates that align with its interests.

The Council had yesterday endorsed the Senator representing Kwara Central Senatorial District, Saliu Mustapha as its standard-bearer for the gubernatorial contest in 2027, while also adopting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a reelection.

The IEPAC is the apex political stakeholders group in Ilorin Emirate that guide the political direction of the community in elections.
