The entry of Prof. Wale Sulaiman, CON, into the Kwara State governorship race under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) marks a significant development in the evolving political landscape of the state. In a period where citizens are increasingly demanding competence, continuity, and measurable progress, his emergence presents what I consider a credible and strategic alternative for sustaining the developmental gains already recorded under the leadership of His Excellency, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, CON.
Kwara State, in recent years, has witnessed deliberate efforts at reforming key sectors, particularly in infrastructure, healthcare, education, and institutional governance. These gains, while commendable, require consolidation and forward-looking leadership that understands both policy design and system implementation. Prof. Sulaiman’s background as a globally respected neurosurgeon, public health expert, and former Special Adviser on Health Matters places him in a unique position to build on these foundations rather than disrupt them.
His record in public service, especially his contributions during critical moments in the state’s health sector reforms and COVID-19 response coordination, demonstrates a leadership style rooted in practical solutions rather than rhetoric. His approach to governance reflects a systems-thinking mindset, which is essential for sustaining long-term development and expanding opportunities for the people of Kwara State.
Beyond professional competence, what stands out about Prof. Sulaiman is his consistent emphasis on unity, inclusion, and institutional discipline within the political space. At a time when political divisions can easily derail progress, his posture within the APC has remained that of a bridge-builder who prioritizes collective success over personal ambition.
It is on this basis that I view his candidature as a best alternative for Kwara State. His emergence does not suggest a break from the current developmental trajectory, but rather an opportunity to deepen and expand it under a renewed vision that aligns with the “Renewed Hope Agenda” of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.
As Kwara approaches another critical electoral cycle, it is important for stakeholders and citizens alike to reflect on leadership choices that guarantee stability, continuity, and progress. Prof. Wale Sulaiman represents, in my considered view, a continuation of purposeful governance and a reinforcement of the reforms already underway.
