A prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State, Hon. Fatai Olayinka Alabi, has formally withdrawn his aspiration for the Kwara State House of Representatives seat representing the Oke Ogun Constituency.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Hon. Alabi described the decision as difficult but necessary, following a period of extensive consultations with party leaders, stakeholders, and his core support base.
While the announcement marks a significant shift in the local political landscape ahead of the 2027 cycle, Alabi emphasized that his withdrawal is rooted in the broader interests of service and party cohesion.
“Politics, for me, has always been about service, unity, and the progress of our people,” the statement read.
“While this chapter may be closing, my commitment to the growth and development of Oke Ogun Constituency remains unshaken.” they added.
The PDP stalwart expressed deep appreciation to his campaign team and the constituents of Oke Ogun, noting that the journey had broadened his perspective and strengthened his resolve to serve in other capacities.
He particularly lauded the loyalty and sacrifices of his team members, acknowledging the prayers and encouragement received from the grassroots since the commencement of his consultations.
Hon. Alabi’s withdrawal is expected to trigger fresh realignments within the PDP in the Oke Ogun axis as the party seeks to present a unified front for the upcoming elections.
Despite stepping out of the legislative race, Alabi reaffirmed that he remains a dedicated member of the PDP, committed to the party’s Power to the People mantra and the continued advancement of his home constituency.
“I sincerely appreciate everyone who believed in this vision and walked this journey with me,” he concluded.
