A female aspirant for the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives ticket in the Moro/Edu/Patigi Federal Constituency of Kwara State, Hon. Amasa Funmilayo Salamat, has petitioned Bola Ahmed Tinubu over what she described as widespread irregularities in the party’s primary election held on May 16, 2026.
In a statement personally signed and addressed to the President, the aspirant alleged that no proper primary election took place in many wards across the constituency, raising serious concerns about the credibility of the exercise.
According to Salamat, electoral officials were absent in several voting locations, while many party members were allegedly denied access to their membership slips and cards required for accreditation and voting.
She further claimed that, instead of allowing party members to participate in a democratic process, some ward chairmen and party elders allegedly took control of the exercise and determined the outcomes themselves.
“In many wards, there were no electoral officials physically present, and genuine party members were denied access to their membership slips/cards needed for accreditation and voting,” she stated.
The aspirant also alleged that results were allegedly written by ward chairmen in some areas and later transported to Bode Saadu for submission and official recording.
“In some wards, figures were simply written by the ward chairman and later taken to Bode Saadu for submission and recording,” she alleged, adding that the development had generated serious dissatisfaction among party members and aspirants.
Describing herself as the only female aspirant in the race, Salamat said her decision to formally raise the issue was driven by her belief in democratic principles, fairness, transparency, and the Renewed Hope agenda of the Tinubu administration.
She appealed to President Tinubu to personally intervene and order an investigation into the conduct of the APC primary election in the Moro, Edu, and Patigi Federal Constituency to ensure justice and fairness for all concerned.
There were also allegations that INEC officials were not present in most places and the absence of result sheets in the whole of Moro and Patigi local governments, fueling apprehension on intended electoral malpractices and disenfranchisement.
The APC leadership in the constituency had yet to officially respond to the claims as of the time of filing this report.
