Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress in Oyun Local Government Area of Kwara State have dismissed rumours alleging that the council chairman directed party members to vote for Prince Lekan Adewoye in the ongoing senatorial contest.
The stakeholders insisted that there is no consensus candidate for the race, urging members of the party to freely support and vote for aspirants of their choice during the party process.
The clarification followed speculations linking the Chairman of Oyun Local Government, Hon. Olarewaju Kamar Akanbi, to an alleged endorsement of Prince Lekan Adewoye for the Kwara South Senate seat.
According to party loyalists in the local government, the APC leadership in Oyun has not adopted any aspirant as a preferred candidate, stressing that all contenders should be given a level playing ground.
“There is no consensus candidate in Oyun Local Government. Members are free to vote for whoever they believe in. The party remains committed to fairness and internal democracy,” a stakeholder quoted Oyun APC chairman Mr Michael Kayode Adewoye
The stakeholders also appealed to party members and supporters to disregard unverified claims capable of causing division within the APC ahead of the party’s internal arrangements.
They further emphasized the need for unity among aspirants and their supporters, noting that the strength of the party lies in peaceful coexistence and respect for democratic principles.
